What is Insight Meditation?
Insight Meditation, also known as Vipassana or mindfulness meditation, originated in the Theravada School of Buddhism, now primarily located in India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Burma. Vipassana, which means "to see clearly", is the simple practice of moment to moment awareness which leads to the development of wisdom and compassion.
On this retreat you’ll experience true Insight Meditation and be guided into this amazingly effective practice, with all its associated benefits!

The 7 Factors of Awakening

During this retreat, we will explore how the seven factors of awakening (the bojjhanga, in Pali) manifest in our daily life practice and during intensive practice periods. The seven factors of awakening are mindfulness, investigation, energy, rapture (enrapt attention/joy), tranquillity, concentration, and equanimity. These are the wholesome factors of mind that set in motion the unfolding of insight, culminating in the release from grasping and stress. This retreat is appropriate for all levels of experience.

Kindling the Light of Awareness: Insight Dialogue

In this season of increasing daylight, we cultivate and celebrate the light of awareness as we turn toward the light of spring and summer.

The words “make of yourself a light” are said to be the Buddha’s last words. On this weekend retreat, we will introduce the engaged co-meditation practice of Insight Dialogue and explore the flow and rhythms of practicing alone in silent practice and together in contemplative relational practice. We will explore the power of cultivating mindfulness, concentration and loving kindness in relationship and the depth and brightness of illumination when “two or more are gathered” with the shared aspiration of awakening. There will be periods of silent practice, Insight Dialogue, and mindful movement.

Contemplation

Also, during this retreat you’ll be expertly led to discover:
* What Contemplation is and how it works;
* The Use of Contemplation with Problem Solving – in particular the Five Principles of Contemplation, the Three Key Techniques, and the Twelve Steps for Contemplation;
 * Contemplation that Deepens Understanding – including an introduction, contemplation of problems and Contemplations on Compassion; AND how to Use Contemplation to deeply discover What is Truth – with an Explanation of both Relative and Absolute Truth, as well as The Basis for what we take to be our own truth;
* The Relative Merits of Rational Thinking and Intuition; How to Develop Intuition and How to Trust Your Intuition.
