Mindfulness Meditation is non-judgemental, open-hearted and friendly.
It is practiced by sitting with eyes closed, cross-legged on a cushion, or on a chair, with the back straight. Attention is put on the movement of the abdomen when breathing in and out, or on the awareness of the breath as it goes in and out the nostrils. How easy!
Why is Meditation an Essential Life Skill?
The pace of modern life is increasing exponentially, people are working longer hours, and many are suffering from stress and fatigue. This leads to a myriad of health problems.

The stress that most people are living with these days is known as low level chronic stress. This means that people are suffering from a constant state of low level chronic stress, and often they don't even know they are living with this condition. They have become accustomed to living and working daily in this low level chronic stress state. This then leads to headaches, feeling anxious, catastrophizing, not being able to relax properly, and not sleeping soundly so that they wake up the next morning feeling tired. This in turn lowers people's immune system and they catch colds and flus easily, as well as suffering from a variety of metabolic illnesses.
In learning and practicing the art of meditation daily, people are able to relax deeply so that the body can renew it's cells effectively; and allows for the easing of stress, insomnia, anxiety and brings the mind/body/spirit connection back into balance. Meditation also improves concentration, brings about a more positive mood, and can continue on into spiritual rejuvenation, altering states of awareness and opening up the heart and mind more fully.
More About Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfullness meditation is defined by Jon Kabat-Zinn as: 'Paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally.' (Jon Kabat-Zinn, Wherever You Go, There You Are, Hyperion Books, New York). It is this Mindfulness Meditation that we base our teachings on here at Health 'n' Harmony for Life. In its essence, Mindfulness Meditation is a simple technique that anyone can learn. And it can make your life so much easier. You can practice it anytime, anywhere; as well as in more formal and relaxed settings for longer periods of time.
From a collective experience of many students, practitioners and teachers of mindfulness meditation, we have formulated a gradual approach to meditation utilising attention. We have called this meditation path Mindfulness-Based Stillness
Meditation (MBSM). "We wholeheartedly recommend that MBSM becomes your main meditation practice. In itself, MBSM is a complete practice with many benefits." (p. 46, Meditation An In-Depth Guide, Ian Gawler & Paul Bedson). It is also a very beneficial foundation for practising the other styles of meditation, being 'meditation utilising intention' and 'meditation utilising inquiry'.
At Health 'n' Harmony for Life we hold small group meditation retreats (maximum of 20 people), as well as retreat days for individulas who would like to learn to meditate well. Meditation workshops are held from time to time, especially for those wanting to experience what Meditation is all about, and what we can offer to people new to Meditation practice. The venue we use for teaching meditation is Earth Inspired Retreats, located in the beautiful and peaceful Hunter Valley of NSW, Australia. You can also learn to meditate privately; face to face, at our place of residence or yours, in the Hunter Valley region; or via Skype calls. We can design a meditation course to suit your individual needs.
Corporate Health and Wellness Retreats and Workshop Sessions
We are now offering our services to the Corporate world, tailoring a mindfulness meditation course to suit your company. We hold two night and one night meditation retreats, either mid-week or over a weekend. Perhaps one full day, half day or shorter sessions would suit you better. We're very flexible in running programs to suit you.
Mindfulness meditation courses are held to cater for all job classifications from workers in the field to office staff. These programs include group instruction and/or private tuition and practice:
